Calgary police say portion of Deerfoot Trail will be closed for several hours after a collision killed one individual early this morning.

A driver in a truck drove in the opposite, southbound lane between 32nd Avenue and 16th Avenue N.E. this morning, which led to a collision with a car, according to police.

The person driving the car was killed and there are no further details about that individual.

Alcohol is considered a factor in the crash, police said. The driver of the truck is in custody.

Both lanes were closed between those two ramps after the incident.

The northbound lane reopened shortly after 7 a.m., while the southbound lane will remain closed for most of the morning.
