Winnipeg man attempts to toss gun after fleeing police

A Winnipeg man was arrested after he attempted to toss his firearm into a garbage bin a amidst police chase on Thursday, Winnipeg police say.

On Thursday at 12:30 p.m. officers in the North End saw a wanted man riding a bike on a sidewalk at Main Street and Burrows Avenue.

When officers attempted to arrest him, the man fled.

Police afterwards caught up with him in the rear lane of the 200 block of Pritchard Ave.

A man has been arrested after he attempted to flee from police and tossed a gun in a garbage bin, Winnipeg police say.

He was caught disposing a weapon as he fled.

After the pursuit, the man was arrested.

Officers seized a sawed-off shotgun and one round of ammunition.

A 32-year-old from Winnipeg remains in custody and faces multiple charges.
